The tracks 'Sudden Death' by Megadeth and 'Black Rain' by Soundgarden, which were both first released on the game 'Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock' are now nominated for Grammy awards. 'Sudden Death' is up for Best Metal Performance, while 'Black Rain' is nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance. These tracks are the first ever original songs written for a video game to be nominated for Grammy awards.
The Guitar Hero franchise has been insanely successful. The series has sold over 25 million units worldwide, earning Activision (the owner) over US$2 billion. Activision claim that it is the 3rd biggest franchise after the Mario and Madden NFL games. The third game in the series, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, is also claimed to be the first single video game to exceed US$1 billion in sales.
Regarding the game, Dave Mustaine commented as follows - "From the first time I played Guitar Hero in Paris several years ago until recently getting my ass handed to me playing at an Activision event in San Francisco, this has been the most fun and most rewarding track I have ever written."
The other tracks Megadeth are competing against for the Grammy are 'El Dorado' by Iron Maiden, 'Let The Guilt Go' by Korn, 'In Your Words' by Lamb of God, and 'World Painted Blood' by Slayer. Soundgarden are competing with Alice In Chains 'A Looking In View', Ozzy Osbourne 'Let Me Hear You Scream', Stone Temple Pilots 'Between The Lines' and Them Crooked Vultures 'New Fang'.
The 53rd Grammy Awards will take place on 13 February 2011 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on CBS.
